Labo(u)r Day in Washington, DC

Sep 17, 2016 | Lifestyle Blog, Travel Blog

Brian and I decided to go to Washington DC for short weekend getaway. Washington is only a short flight from New York and Toronto so it was the perfect spot for us to meet up for the weekend.

Washington DC
We visited the National Mall, Lincoln Memorial, and Washington Monument by bike. It was so much fun biking around the city taking in all the sights and historical monuments. You can cover a lot more ground and also get some exercise at the same time! If you are a Fairmont President’s Club member you can borrow some nice BMW bikes for free! Otherwise, you can easily rent a bike at one of the many Capital Bikeshare racks. The best part of the Bikeshare system is that you don’t have to return the bike at the same location. You are able to bike one way and check in your bike at any of the Capital Bikeshare racks across the city.

One of the many things I love about Washington is that a lot of the sites and museums are free. For example: the National Gallery of Art, Smithsonian National Museum of Natural History, United States Holocaust Memorial Museum, etc. among many others.

We stayed at the Fairmont Washington DC, located in Washington’s fashionable West End and adjacent to historic Georgetown. One of the best part is staying on the gold floor with access to the gold lounge where we had complimentary breakfast and afternoon cocktail canapés… yum!

Washington DC
The hotel is only a 5-10 minute walk to the Georgetown area full of amazing restaurants and cute shops including Beard Papa’s for some yummy cream puffs!

We can’t wait to come back to check out all the other monuments and museums!

Romeo, Romeo, wherefore art thou Romeo? Face it, we’ve all wanted a love like Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet (okay, without the double-suicide, but still.) Even in 2022, hoards of hopeless romantics travel all of the way to Verona, Italy in hopes that one of the most...
