I’m back with another fun Q&A. I hope you’ve enjoying ‘meeting’ or getting to know more about my special guests, including the Nomadic Boys, Roxanne Weijer and Maartje Hensen from Once Upon a Journey, and HueyDavid. Today, I am interviewing the super talented YouTube content creator – Adam Monastero.
Tell us a little about yourself.
My name is Adam Monastero and I would consider myself a YouTube content creator, graphic designer, and motion graphics animator. I got started with YouTube and Instagram about 3 years ago when my twin brother and I decided it would be a fun hobby to start making YouTube videos together. I was super influenced by the Harries Twins Jack and Finn who had the channel Jacksgap, and other YouTubers like Troye Sivan and Tyler Oakley. At that point in our lives we both just came out of the closet to each other so it was fun sharing our unique story with the world online. We hadn’t come out to our parents yet so we knew that by the fourth or fifth video into our channel we would have to tell them before we started to really promote our videos to our actual friends and social media network, instead of just posting online without self-promotion.
How is it working with your gay brother?
Working with my brother is very fun because we know each other so well and bounce off one another very easily on camera. The only time it gets kind of difficult is when one of us has a really busy schedule so we really gotta manage our time.
Describe your dream vacation?
My dream vacation would probably be to somewhere really hot because I am the happiest when I’m in the sun. A place with beautiful scenery and a lot of fun activities in nature to try, like surfing, bungee jumping, ATVing in the jungle, and cliff jumping, are all things that really interest me. Basically, any place that I can end up making an aesthetically pleasing and fun travel video for my YouTube channel. If my close friends are there with me, even better! For some reason Hawaii keeps coming to mind but the world is huge so I’m down to go wherever. I love exploring new places.
What is one place you haven’t been to yet, but is at the top of your list.
Hawaii or Australia.
Are you openly gay to your friends, family, and co-workers?
I am openly gay to absolutely everyone. My whole family knows and pretty much anyone can find out by Googling my name.
How old were you when you came out to your family? Looking back, is there anything you’d have done differently? Do you wish you had told them sooner?
My brother and I came out just after turning 21, and I have zero regrets. Everyone has their time where they feel ready and that was the time for me. Sometimes I hear stories about people who came out in their early years of high school or even earlier and I get jealous, but overall, everything happens for a reason.
Do you have a boyfriend? Tell us all about him and how he is to travel with.
I do have a boyfriend. His name is Chris and he is currently a flight attendant for a Canadian airline. We have traveled together twice now and both times were really fun experiences. He puts up with my constant desire to find good shots for videos and Instagram, so I am very grateful for that!
Unfortunately, some cultures are not as friendly as others when it comes to same sex couples. Have you come across any issues while traveling to other countries?
So far I have not come across any homophobia while traveling with my boyfriend, which is great. That is probably mainly because we have been to really LGBT friendly places so far. It will be interesting to see how that changes with the life traveling we do.
What has been the friendliest country so far?
The friendliest place we have been so far is Miami Beach, Florida. Everyone was super nice and everything there is very breathtaking.
Has Instagram changed the way you travel?
Being a content creator for Instagram and YouTube, I think it has definitely influenced the way I travel. I always try to pick a place now that I know will result in beautiful scenery and interesting experiences. Location is everything when it comes to your online content and the more beautiful the place you’re at, the better your Instagram pictures will turn out, and the more cinematic your videos will end up. Add a little sun in there and good company, and I am living my best life.
