The Murray Hotel: A new standard of luxury

Apr 13, 2018 | Food Blog, Lifestyle Blog, Travel Blog

Imagine walking into your sleek hotel room, jumping into your soft luxurious bed, and turning your head to see the breathtaking view of the city and Hong Kong Park. This is what guests can experience at Hong Kong’s newest luxury iconic landmark hotel – The Murray.

The Murray, which is part of the Niccolo Hotel group, opened its doors in January 2018, welcoming guests to enjoy their contemporary urban sanctuary within the hustle and bustle of Hong Kong!

The Design

This former government office building has been transformed into a stunning five-star hotel. Designed by Foster + Partners, it offers more space than most hotels in the city. The building itself was built to be sustainable with its iconic recessed square windows that were designed to conserve energy. The building also had a car ramp that has now been converted into an event space with beautiful giant arches. The architecture and interior design are spectacular and are truly a photographer’s paradise!

The Room

We stayed in the Grand Room – a contemporary styled room with plush carpets on beautiful hardwood floors. Surfaces are covered with unique complementary stones, glass, leather and textiles. And the best part of the room was the luxurious bathroom with its beautiful stone bathtub and separate rain shower. It was like having a mini spa within your own room.

The Food

If you are a foodie, The Murray, with its 5 restaurants and bars, including some of the finest amongst Central Hong Kong, will be perfect for you! We had breakfast at The Tai Pan, where the warm and welcoming design made the experience extra memorable. Once opened, Popinjays –  the rooftop bar and restaurant will be serving European cuisine with the best seasonal ingredients. After touring the restaurant and rooftop, I can only say that guests will be treated to breathtaking panoramic city views. If you are visiting the hotel, make sure you visit the rooftop deck for a cocktail or dinner, and enjoy the view. And before you end your night, stop by Murray Lane  – a Wall Street inspired bar that is the perfect way to relax after a long day.

The Service

The Murray offers excellent hospitality and attention to detail – it’s like they know what you want or need before you can even think of it. From the car service to the bellman, the front desk, and the waiters, everyone was trained to impress.

The Location

At the heart of the action in the Central district of Hong Kong, The Murray is nestled in between all the tall office towers and beside the Peak Tram terminal, where you can take the tram up to Victoria Peak. It is conveniently located between two MTR (subway) stations so you can easily get around the city. The location is great for business and leisure travelers alike. It also overlooks the landscaped Hong Kong Park, which is perfect if you want to escape and find some peace and quiet.

If you are looking for a luxury sanctuary and a perfect home away from home in Hong Kong, then The Murray is for you. There are only 336 guest rooms, so book in advance. And make sure you wander around the building and the rooftop to thoroughly appreciate the property and the transformation it went through. Like many five star hotels in Hong Kong, the price is not cheap, but worth every penny – so make sure you save up and splurge on this retreat.
