I have been to Hong Kong many times and for the most part I have stayed with my relatives. This time, I opted to check out some of the new hotels in the city. And I am so glad I did! One of them is the Kerry Hotel located in an off-the-beaten path residential neighbourhood of Whampoa, within the Hung Hom district of Hong Kong.
With its debut as little less than one year ago (April 28, 2017), Kerry Hotel – Hong Kong brings a dynamic approach to hospitality to the shores of Victoria Harbour. The first newly built hotel to open on the Kowloon waterfront in over two decades, Kerry Hotel – Hong Kong is the city’s first urban resort for visitors and local residents, offering an unparalleled array of dining options, leisure activities, business and meeting services, and wellness programs.
The Kerry Hotel is a five star brand in the Shangri-La family of hotels and is a bit more vibrant and casual in nature. It is perfect for me because I like to be pampered but at the same time be casual and dress down without feeling like I don’t fit in.
As for the room, the first thing we noticed as we walked in was the amazing panoramic view of the Victoria Habour and Hong Kong Island. It was truly breathtaking. The room itself was huge for Hong Kong standards and the bathroom was beautiful as well.
We stayed in a club Premier Sea View room, which included access to the Club Lounge where you can enjoy complimentary breakfast, evening cocktails, and canapes and snacks throughout the day.
We also checked out some of the restaurants onsite. Hung Tong honours Hong Kong’s past while creating a modern experience of Chinese cuisine. Inspired by the 19th century shipyards that once dominated the Hung Hom Bay neighbourhood in which the hotel now sits, the walls of Hung Tong are lined with red bricks that were once a signature of buildings along the shoreline. The feeling of “old Hong Kong” is evoked throughout the design with traditional metal gates, wooden vents, vintage-inspired chairs, and tinted glass pendants. Red Sugar bar features an extensive 270-degree wrap-around terrace with sweeping views of Victoria Harbour and the Hong Kong skyline. The terrace is huge and very uncommon in Hong Kong so it is definitely worth the trip even if to have a drink and enjoy the spectacular view of the hustle and bustle of Hong Kong. The Dockyard with its fully serviced bar and quick-service, brings international culinary talent together under one roof in a stand-alone food hall where you can pick and choose between all the different types of food and conveniently order and pay via a phone app.
Overall, if you are looking for a great place to stay that is centrally located with easy access to the subway station, has spectacular views and amazing service in a casual relaxed environment, then the Kerry Hotel is for you. I highly recommend booking the club access rooms. The club lounge and additional benefits are really worth it! And don’t forget to check out the outdoor pool. It is one of the largest I’ve seen in Hong Kong and again, with the backdrop of the amazing Hong Kong skyline.
