With the lights and snow, there are spots in the city that become true winter wonderlands, and the best part is that even with the cold weather, NYC still offers a ton of things to do. See the Christmas Tree at Rockefeller Center – This year’s tree lighting ceremony is happening tonight – December 4th! The tradition dated back over 75 years is always a magical experience. But if you are reading this after the ceremony, stopping by to admire the tree is still an amazing experience.
Shopping and Ice Skating at Bryant Park – This is the place to go for unique gifts, including locally crafted goods and seasonal art. In addition to shopping, there is also free ice-skating – and great food (the food is not free though. Haha)!
Window-shopping on 5th Avenue – For an entire different shopping experience, just walk down Fifth Avenue during December and you will be stunned by the elaborate window displays. Each storefront is decorated with its own theme and it can be impossible to choose a favourite.
230 Fifth Rooftop – Available all through December, 230 Fifth Rooftop’s Igloo Bar is the place to be for evening drinks. And they are now accepting reservation! Igloos are heated and transparent, which allows for amazing views of the city.
NY Botanical Gardens – The Holiday Train Show at the Botanical Gardens is another NYC holiday tradition that can’t be missed. The display features more than 175 famous New York landmarks. The NY Botanical Gardens also hosts Bar Car Nights, which are adult-only nights at the Holiday Train Show. Mulled wine and spiked hot chocolate… do I need to say more??
The Radio City Rockettes – The 90 minute Christmas Spectacular show has been entertaining the crowds at Radio City since the 1930s, and it is the perfect activity for the entire family. Tickets are available throughout December with several shows per day.
Afternoon tea at the Plaza – A relaxing afternoon at the Plaza can be invigorating. The New Yorker Tea includes tea sandwiches, scones, bite-size sweets and the option to add champagne. You can people watch and admire the beautiful holiday decorations right where they filmed scenes from Home Alone.
Belvedere Castle in Central Park – Not many people know there is a castle right in Central Park. This is one spot in NYC that is truly a winter wonderland. This is the absolute perfect spot for holiday pictures, especially when covered with snow. This is also a popular film location and was used for Enchanted, The Smurfs, Stepmom, and more.
New Year’s Eve Ball Drop in Times Square – Good music, celebrities, and more! This is the place to be if you want to close the holiday season and start a new year in style.
